Private Dog Training & Coaching in Massachusetts
Learn to train your dog. Understand why it works.
Private training at Brighter Days is for owners who want more than a dog who follows commands. We teach the principles of canine behavior, learning theory, communication, and practical training mechanics so you can become a more capable and confident handler.
Our approach goes beyond basic food luring and cookie-cutter obedience lessons. You'll learn to understand your dog, develop effective communication, and build skills that transfer into everyday life.

Our training philosophy
We train the whole dog, not just the behaviors you want to see. Our approach considers emotional state, motivation, learning history, environment, and communication.
Guided by the LIFE principle — Least Intrusive, Functionally Effective — we develop individualized training strategies that make sense for the dog in front of us.
Is private training right for you?
Private coaching is best for owners who want to understand the training process and actively participate in their dog's development.
If you'd rather have a professional do the bulk of the training, explore our Board & Train programs.
Behavior modification and dogs with aggression or bite histories require a separate evaluation and are not eligible for standard private lessons.
Private Lessons FAQ
We consider dogs with behavioral challenges for private coaching on a case-by-case basis. However, dogs displaying behaviors that pose a physical safety risk to people or other animals are generally not appropriate candidates.
Serious behavioral concerns require specialized assessment, handling, and management. We cannot responsibly ask owners to practice potentially dangerous behaviors between supervised appointments when the risk to the dog, handler, or public is too high. These cases may be better suited to our Behavior Modification Board & Train program.
What if my dog has behavioral problems?
1
That's absolutely fine! Previous training experience can be a great starting point. We'll evaluate your dog's existing skills, discuss your goals, and develop an individualized plan that builds on what your dog already knows.
What if my dog has already trained with someone else?
2
We guarantee thoughtful, professional instruction and a genuine commitment to helping you and your dog progress. However, private training is a collaborative process. We cannot practice for you, implement your homework, or control what happens between appointments.
Your participation matters. Just as importantly, we need you to communicate when something isn't working. We can't troubleshoot challenges we don't know about!
Do you guarantee results?
3
Why do you emphasize learning theory and behavioral psychology so much?
4
Because we don't want you to become dependent on your trainer.
Our experience has shown that owners who are taught only a collection of skills often struggle when something unexpected happens. We want you to graduate understanding how to motivate your dog, influence behavior, recognize why something isn't working, and troubleshoot challenges independently.
Our goal isn't just to teach your dog new behaviors. It's to give you the knowledge and confidence to keep developing your relationship long after training ends.
